Cub Scout Pack 3371

The Cub Scout Program - Uniforms

Wearing a uniform gives youth and adult members a sense of identification. The uniform is a reminder of the member's commitment to character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Awards displayed on the uniform mark the progress of every Scout and leader in achieving these goals and successfully practicing Scouting's ideals.

The Boy Scouts of America has always been a uniformed body. Its uniforms help to create a sense of belonging. They symbolize character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Wearing a uniform gives youth and adult members a sense of identification and commitment.

  • Personal equality - The uniform represents a democratic idea of equality, bringing people of different backgrounds together in the Scouting tradition.
  • Identification - The uniform identifies youth and adult members of the Boy Scouts of America, visible as a force for good in the community. When properly and smartly worn, the uniform can build good unit spirit.
  • Achievement - The uniform shows the wearer's activity, responsibility, and achievement. The accomplishments of every youth and adult member can be recognized by the insignia worn on the uniform.
  • Personal commitment - The uniform is a constant reminder to all members of their commitment to the ideals and purpose of the Scouting movement. It is a way of making visible members' commitment to a belief in God, loyalty to country, and helping others at all times.

The leaders of Scouting - volunteer and professional - should promote the wearing of the correct, complete uniform on all suitable occasions.

Pack 3371 Uniform and Handbook Requirements

Pack 3371 requires the boys to be in their official Class A uniform for all scouting events, unless otherwise specified by your Den Leader or Cubmaster. This includes all outings, den meetings, pack meetings and District or Council events. Handbooks are required for all Den Meetings unless your Den Leader has specified otherwise.

Pack 3371's uniform requirements are as follows:

Handbook: The Official Rank Handbook (1st grade - Tiger Cub; 2nd grade - Wolf; 3rd - Bear; 4th and 5th - Webelos) is required for every boy in the same Den. Each handbook contains the requirements that are to be completed in order to earn Rank Badges.
Shirt: The official blue Cub Scout shirt with button flap pockets. Has gold "Boy Scouts of America" lettering on right shirt front. Short sleeved shirts are recommended. All proper insignia is to be sewn on the shirt (see next item). Webelos scouts (4th and 5th grade) have the option of wearing the tan Boy Scout shirt instead.
Insignia: A Council Shoulder Patch, 50-year Veteran Unit bar, Unit Numerals (available for sale as a 1-piece "3371" patch from the Pack), World Crest emblem, and our most recent "Quality Unit" patch are the official required insignia on all Class A uniforms. All of these patches are available in one packet, with diagrams showing where they go, at most Pack meetings for $11.00.
Neckerchief: Official appropriately colored neckerchief, identifying each boy's den as a Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos Scout.
Neckerchief Slide: Official gold colored metal slide with appropriately den emblem. Handmade neckerchief slides may also be worn, if approved by your Den Leader.
Hat (optional): Official baseball-style hat, appropriately colored, with appropriately den emblem.
Belt (optional): Official blue belt with metal buckle and Cub Scout emblem.

Uniform requirements should be met as soon as possible, and no later than the Blue and Gold banquet. If you need financial assistance with uniforms, please see our Cubmaster for eligibility requirements and information.

The first thing you should buy is the handbook for their grade level. They will need their handbook immediately, to start working on different Scouting achievement.

The next thing you should buy is the shirt; we recommend that you buy only a short-sleeved shirt; you can put a long-sleeve dark blue shirt under it in cold weather. We also recommend that you buy a shirt that is larger than your Scout's current size, so that you don't have to buy a new one every time they grow. (Yes, they grow fast!)
